TM Net aims for 900,000 broadband users

KUALA LUMPUR: TM Net Sdn Bhd is targeting more than 900,000 broadband subscribers by year-end, said general manager Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Malek.

This was achievable as TM Net had 690,000 broadband subscribers as at end-June and was currently averaging about 40,000 new subscribers a month, he said.

Fadhlullah was speaking to reporters yesterday on the sidelines of Malaysia Debt Ventures Bhd (MDV) Business & Technology Speakers’ Series – Triple Play: Exploring Potential and Monetising Opportunities conference.

On the conference topic, he said the revision of the Uniform Building Bylaws to include communications as an essential service would help in the adoption of triple-play technology in the country.

Small and medium enterprises operating in the triple play market should look at opportunities to increase collaboration between each other while complementing large companies in the information and communications technology (ICT) environment, said MDV managing director Mohd Zubir Ansori Yahaya.

According to Zubir, the main challenges in triple play are mostly not technology-related.

To date, MDV has approved about RM2bil in loans, of which 35% has been channelled to projects in communications and multimedia, and 20% to the Government’s ICT-related projects.
