Pikom raises RM92,000 for charity

THE Pikom CXO Charity Golf 2009, held at the Kota Permai Golf & Country Club, Shah Alam, on Aug 13, raised RM92,000 for charity.

The sum exceeded last year’s collection of RM90,000.

This year’s event was held in conjunction with the Pikom National ICT Month 2009.

The amount was raised through collection of participation/green fees, a charity auction and contribution from business leaders, industry captains and members of the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (Pikom).

Pikom chairman David Wong Nan Fay and golf organising committee chairman K.C. Goh presented the donations to the recipients during the prize-giving ceremony of the golf meet.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili, who was also one of the golfers, received the donation on behalf of the Education Fund for the Rural Hostel Programme.

The Silver Jubilee Home’s cheque presentation will take place in Penang.

Pikom has been organising golf tournaments annually over the last few years.

The association has also been consistent in making contributions to charitable causes as part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

“By incorporating the charity drive into the golf tournament, Pikom hopes that the event had been more meaningful to its members and their customers as well as to the community,” Goh said.

“We got members to sponsor their customers to take part in the golf tournament. Some members had also been generous in providing the auction items while many turned up to have fun and support the noble cause,” he added.

The golf competition was won by Affin Bank Bhd chief information officer Azlan Rashid.

The first runner-up was Green Earth Concett Sdn Bhd managing director Eddie Khoo Liang Hong while Patimas Computers Bhd vice-president Lim Khong Soo won third place.

Some 110 golfers took part in the tournament.

Among the prizes worth more than RM100,000 were laptops, mobile phones, PDAs, golfing equipment and skincare products.

Some of the sponsors are DiGi Bhd, Acer Sales & Marketing Sdn Bhd, Mesiniaga Bhd, Golf Malaysia Magazine, Malaysian Debt Ventures (MDV), Maybank2U, 128 Faubourg, Delcol United Marketing Sdn Bhd, Canon Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd, Sonic Gear and Lelong.com.my.

Among the golfers who took part were Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) CEO Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, Kompakar Bhd Group CEO Datuk Dr Ahmad Fikri Hussein, Sime Darby Bhd chief information officer Tan Kah Chai, Employees Provident Fund chief information officer Andy Tan Eng Teik and Bank Muamalat Bhd senior vice-president Mohd Fuad Muslim.
