KUALA LUMPUR (June 24): Malaysia Debt Ventures Bhd (MDV), a company under Minister of Finance (Incorporated), has appointed Sharul Sazman Samaan as its new chief business officer (CBO) effective June 20, 2025.

MDV is a venture capital firm under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti), focused on financing companies in the technology sector.

Sharul has been serving as the acting CBO since December 2024 and brings over 20 years of experience in the financing industry, including 17 years with MDV. He started his career at Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd and holds an Accountancy (Hons) degree from Universiti Teknologi Mara.

Since joining MDV in 2008, Sharul has held several leadership roles, such as a senior assistant vice-president of the business division, vice-president of business building, and most recently, senior vice-president of client coverage.

As the CBO, Sharul will oversee MDV’s business strategy and operations across client coverage, credit, and venture finance, while working to grow its presence and partnerships in both the public and private sectors.

MDV chief executive officer Rizal Fauzi in a statement said the appointment reflects the board’s confidence in Sharul’s leadership and ability to drive MDV’s strategic goals and support the tech financing ecosystem.
