DiGi’s Q2 profit was up 15.5% to RM380 million and revenue increase of 3.4% to RM1.65billion compared to previous quarter. Growth was attributed to improvements of network quality and coverage given their successfully swapping 85 per cent of their sites nationwide and expanding their 3G network footprint to 72% of populated areas. CEO Henrik Clausen said DiGi fully expects the mobile Internet data to drive the growth for the telco. For the fifth consecutive year, Axiata Group Berhad has been awarded the prestigious Frost & Sullivan’s Asia Pacific ICT Award for “Best Telecom Group of the Year”. Axiata took home three awards in total with Celcom Axiata Bhd winning the ‘Wireless Data Services Provider of The Year’ and Robi Axiata was voted ‘Best Emerging Market Service Provider of The Year’. MDV lauds the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry who will be setting up a task force to protect children from online threats, including cyber bullying, extortion, pornography and “mobile sexting”. Minister Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim said the task force would comprise cyber experts and representatives from non-governmental organisations. Malaysia will be increasing its biodiesel production by 50% to 375,000 tonnes this year due to price differential between crude oil and palm oil prices that is favourable in the export market. The Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas said that biodiesel industry is now able to churn out between 300,000 and 400,000 tonnes a year due to the favourable price differential in the export market. Masers Energy Malaysia Sdn Bhd is ready to develop its US$72 billion (RM228.6 billion) first Smart Grid City and Green Special Economic Zone (SEZ) projects in Melaka. Smart Grid City is a city that uses traditional grids fitted with innovative information and communications technology. Large amounts of transmitted and processed data are needed for management of the grid. Green SEZs are zones free of carbon, running on full integration of Smart Grid technology. Our scientists made a breakthrough with the release of the oil palm genome and discovery of a single gene, called Shell that will raise palm oil yields towards enhancing the future production and sustainability of the palm oil industry.
