KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) — The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDec) has finalised the study on the Intellectual Property (IP) valuation model and is set to introduce it soon.
“We have done all the processes needed on the model but we need a suitable date to make the official announcement,” chief operating officer Ng Wan Peng told Bernama after the launch of the Alcatel-Lucent Geek-The-Genius contest.
MDeC, the driver of the Multimedia Super Corridor, is working very closely with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) to seek the necessary approvals for the IP valuation model.
She also said the introduction of the IP valuation model is the first step in assisting financial institutions to refer to a specific methodology in valuing IP rights but declined to elaborate on the process, saying an official announcement will be made soon.
Earlier Ng, who launched the contest, said she hopes the local content development under the Creative Multimedia Cluster, the visual effects, animation and mobile content programmes, would maintain its total sales of RM6 billion this year.
She said last year was a great achievement with total sales in the programmes of RM6 billion and export sales of RM360 million.
“We just hope that we will be able to maintain the figure in terms of total sales despite the global economy uncertainties,” she said.
She also said that the introduction of the second MSC Malaysia Integrated Content Development Programme (ICON2) last year has been successful, with about 62 applications uploaded to App Store to date.
“To encourage more Malaysians on board the content development bandwagon, ICON2 will focus its efforts on assisting aspiring entrepreneurs undergo the requisite technical skills training and obtain funding and assistance in commercialising their products,” she said.
She added that ICON2 will assist more developers produce high quality content with emphasis on creative and technical aspects which will ultimately lead to revenue generation.
