KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) — The setting up of an intellectual property (IP) online portal will be able to create better awareness and networking among technology companies that are using IP as collateral.
Launched as IP Online Portal, it will enable companies to register and list their IPs to be seen by the public, said Malaysia Debt Ventures Bhd Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Md Zubir Ansori Yahaya.
“Now is a good time for us to have a portal exchange because it ties with all other government initiatives in bringing technologies to the forefront and in transforming Malaysia into a high-income nation,” he told Bernama.
The IP Exchange is in collaboration with Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO).
At present, Md Zubir said the portal’s objective was to create volume and it is left to be seen if the portal exchange would become a trading platform like Bursa Malaysia.
On the IP financing scheme, he said the response was good as RM35 million in financing has been approved to eight companies.
He added that through the portal exchange, any potential partnership or investment that was dedicated for IPs can be created.
The IP Online Portal also intended to create a stable eco-system within the technology sector, he said.
“There are many good Malaysian companies but the market is too small, the eco-system is also not so dynamic unlike the Silicon Valley,” said Md Zubir.
